They were on the start of a day in the countryside. From the brow of a hill they surveyed the land that they would have to cross. One of them saw the land as the reality of the maps that they had looked at, interesting trails, the light across the land, shady woods. A chance to become part of life, the chance to explore unknown territory.
The other saw numerous unforeseen problems. Broken ground, insects, silent places ... Guess who had the better time.
They set themselves to study mathematics. One learned the basic principles, coming to understand the elegant logic of it. Constantly exploring, extending the knowledge, revelling in the widening horizons. The other saw no point in making the effort to work at something, for which at that time they saw no practical purpose. Guess who found it fun. |
