"O, man, sole root of fault in thee, is not to know thy own divinity."  Byron

Let us pretend that you have the power, and responsibility, to build a human being. Not a super creature, not even a perfect human being, but a 'someone' who you would be pleased to know. Let us build a person whom you would choose above all to have as a companion. Gender is immaterial. To think in sexual terms would cloud the issue, bringing unwarranted bias into our virtual creation. The physical container is the work of another department. Your assignment is to create the personality that shapes it.

Close to hand, you have three bins into which you can place all of those attributes that you see as being desirable in your creation. The choice of those attributes are entirely your own. The containers into which you place them are labelled as :

EMOTIONAL
PHYSICAL
MENTAL

Take care to avoid contradictions by not adding ingredients that are in conflict with each other. In the table below I have shown a sample construction kit, with ingredients drawn from a wide range of sources, including some from magazines that run reader polls of the kind;     'What do you see as attractive traits in other people ?' Remember that these are only my examples, chosen at random. How you choose to fill your containers is up to you.

ATTRIBUTES
EMOTIONAL
PHYSICAL
MENTAL
Well balanced
Compassionate
Cheerful
Good smile
Healthy
Well modulated voice
Straight backed
Co-ordinated
Self-educated
Intellectually curious
Intellectually honest
Decisive
Pragmatic
GENERAL
I would expect this person to have a number of interests outside of the workplace. They would be a member of more than one social group, and be able fit in with a variety of people, having developed their social skills. They will also be quite at ease in their own company. Open in their relationships and able to accept responsibility for their own mistakes. Trustworthy.
ENVIRONMENT
Their general environment will naturally be a reflection of their economic standing. Their own dwelling place would be well-organised and kept clean and reasonably tidy, a reflection of their personality and interests.

Make up your own chart on a sheet of paper. Take plenty of time over your deliberations. Make the time span a matter of days rather hours. Do not be in a hurry to fill the spaces. Make notes. Think about it as an interesting thing to do. Fill your chart quite clearly so that it can be refered to at a later date.

You will be responsible for this virtual human being, so make an honest job of it. A good question to ask yourself is as to whether you would accept this 'person' as a roommate. The idea is to design a personality that you see as having those traits that are worthy of the respect and admiration of yourself, and other civilised beings.

Do not continue reading this chapter until you are quite finished filling in your chart. Knowing what comes next will influence what you are doing now. The only person to be disadvantaged by foreknowledge will be yourself.

When you are finally satisfied with your work, put it somewhere out of sight but handy to find when needed at a later date.
